ADVERSE REACTION

What to do if you have an adverse reaction.

All the treatments we carry out and products we use are considered safe, however, no treatment is without risk and on very rare occasions can cause an allergic reaction or irritated skin.

Allergies are very common. They are thought to affect more than 1 in 4 people in the UK at some point in their lives. Your well-being is our priority and one reason why we ask about your health status and why it’s important that you tell the salon/therapist about any medical conditions that might impact your treatment. Most allergic reactions are mild, but occasionally can also be severe. Medical assistance should always be sought for any severe problems. We are always available for help and advice on actions you can take to address a mild reaction. If you pop into one of our branches or take a picture and send it to us, it will help us to assist you in both the short term and future. Essentially there are two types of skin reaction. Allergic contact dermatitis involves your immune system. Symptoms from this type of reaction include hives, itching, swelling, and redness. Another type of reaction is known as irritant contact dermatitis that causes damage to your skin in the area of the treatment. These symptoms include itching, stinging, burning, or even blisters at the site Priority actions Severe reaction

1. Seek immediate advice from a medical professional for any severe reactions.

2. Contact the Salon to advise us when you are able.

3. A member of the management team will contact you within 24hrs.

4. Management will investigate your treatment plan and carry out a root cause analysis.

5. Management will contact you again to advise you of the outcome of the investigation with 72 hours of the matter being raised. Mild reaction

Things to do following an allergic reaction. There are several medicines available to help control symptoms of allergic reactions, including

antihistamines – these can be taken when you notice the symptoms of a reaction, or before being exposed to an allergen, to stop a reaction occurring • decongestants – tablets, capsules, nasal sprays or liquids that can be used as a short-term treatment for a blocked nose

lotions and creams, such as moisturising creams (emollients) – these can reduce skin redness and itchiness

steroid medicines – sprays, drops, creams, inhalers and tablets that can help reduce redness and swelling caused by an allergic reaction.
